Unshakeable

Garrett contributed the chapter Unshakeble, to OUR WITNESS; The Unheard Stories of LGBT+ Christians, an anthology compiled and edited by Brandan Robertson. A small excerpt is included below, the book can be purchased here.
“Growing up in white, middle-class, Republican, Catholic South Florida, I was always the gayest person in the room. Even well before I knew I was gay, I was the gayest person in the room. In elementary school, while most boys attempted to perfect their free-throws during recess, I attempted to perfect my Ginger Spice impersonation. Other boys wanted to be with a Spice Girl, I kind of just wanted to be one. When I was in the forth grade, freckled, bucktoothed, chubby and slightly more round than most of my classmates, with a strawberry blonde bow cut to top it all off, I was galled gay for the first time. In private Catholics school, we learned a lot about the Stations of the Cross, but not a whole lot about the teachings of Jesus. You know, love your neighbour and all that stuff.”
